Back from China

I'll just comment on some of the posts I read below. About the shopping carts, that is dumb, does anyone remember the those stupid computers they put on the shopping carts like 10 years ago? those things sucked, I know you couldn't receive email with them, but I definitely don't want to get spam while I am shopping. Well sometimes I do.

Ron, be gentle with the blog, you have to caress it, and foreplay, your not going to be able to post any pictures on this blog without foreplay. make sure you click on the tab to the right that says Edit HTML. Thats cool about the job, you will have to let me know who has the Loosest Slots in Vegas. Are you still coming to the conference out here this week?

Tom, I think it depends on the how much work they want, If it is so much work that you would have trouble making deadlines, then you should do it project by project, and you would get paid for the work that you did, but you could probably get more money from them as salary or lump sum.

Timex Competition

I took a look at the Timex Competition today, and I'm starting to realize why Ron called me at 5:30am last week ranting about this competition. Let's do a quick analysis.

Wrist Based

The winner for the wrist segment was basically a snap bracelet that could take pictures, had a thumbprint reader, and could sync to satellites to tell world time...WTF? yeah, these might be good ideas, but in 150 years?..cmon. Look at this century; 150 years ago there were no cars, no satellites, no internet(s), and no snap bracelets. This person wasn't even trying to see the future, and they obviously didn't know about Moore's Law that says that technology doubles every 18 months. Let's just look at that real fast. 150 years=1800 months=100 Moore Cycles, and 100 Moore Cycles is basically 2^100 times what technology was when it started.

Oh and did I mention it's solar powered and waterproof up to 5000 meters(or 5km), so you're safe to wear your watch on the outside of your f#$%ing compression suit when you're playing in the Abyssal Plains of the ocean where the water temp is about 0 and there is no light(let's hope it has indiglo). Survey says...F

Next we have these generic pieces of wizardry.

I can hear the judges now, "It's a bracelet...that's a watch...yay!"
and "It's a sweatband...that's a watch...brrrilliant!"

Wearables
The wearable section was full of tripe such as a thumbnail watch, an ear watch, the omni-present contact lense gizmo, and the sticker watch(that's real consumerism for you...now everyday when you throw away your sticker you can really say you're wasting time). I don't have the energy talk about this section, but if you want to look, go here.

Conceptual
In the conceptual section you have another sticker watch, and the opposite of the consumer sticker watch, the "earn your vacation watch".

Okay, I think it's neat that the guy made a swept circle bracelet in Rhino/Alias, and then offset that surface, and made it glass to have a thermometer effect, but the idea is a little 1984 for me. According to this there is now a global government that controls all of our free time and doles it out when we've been ecological enough to deserve it...that's fucking psycho; I'd rather stab myself in the face then wear some kind of eco-thermometer, mark of the beast. I bet this person also made a 2 minutes hate watch that never made it.

Notables
In the notables section, I actually liked these:

I think that the style for the left one is a little too tech for me, but I think that I could easily see it in a sci-fi movie. And the fur one is cool in that it's...well...fuzzy.

However, the "Little Ben" watch made me feel queezy...

Conclusion
I'm aware that I didn't enter this contest, but my concepts wouldn't have been lasers, holograms, or stale ideas pulled from a 50's sci-fi movie. I swear that I will enter the next contest on Core just to throw my hat in the mix, but with winners like the "eco-clock", "sticker watch", and "slap bracelet" on this one, I don't really feel like I have a chance of winning.

In conclusion, shake machine broke.

Napkin Contest

I saw this over at Core 77, and I thought that it would be funny if someone actually redesigned the napkin for the napkin sketch contest--it deals with water right? Maybe some type of futuristic sketch napkin that could absorb water and that jizz looking blood of the androids in Alien.

That is cool about "Red", I haven't talked to her in a long time, she needs to hang out with us west coasters some time. Ron, good luck with the phone interview, we passed by what could be your new home last night. Vegas was fun, dissappointed there was no Ricky Shroeder at breakfast this time, but I did see the most kick ass Asian mullet that I have ever seen.

I am off to China on monday, if anyone wants any cheap ass "Dolex" watches or the chinese subtitled version of "Gigli" drop me an email. I get back the 22nd, so I am looking forward to your visit Ron.

Elite Designers Against Ikea

If you looked at Core77 today, then you already noticed this, but if not, it's hilarious...
It's a fake site put up by IKEA that satirizes the elitist ideals of some designers. It even goes so far as to have $370 coffee cups and golden quotes like:

"The page is the egg; my pencil the sperm, the design my beautiful love child."

Alien Hominid....waste your day

Holy crap this game is addictive...it reminds me of Earthworm Jim as an Alien drawn in a Calvin and Hobbes Spaceman Spiff style.

pix

this fucking thing didn't let me post a minute ago....

I use the HTML method to put up pix.
Click the Edit Html tab on the right and then insert this preceding your image url:
img src=" and then this after the image url "/> --yes the quotes are necessary.
You'll also need to place this before the whole thing "<" and this after the whole thing "/>" --this time leave out the quotes.

If SpaceShip One were a woman, I'd have sex with all 18 of it's front orafaces...sexy

I think I am working for the wrong company

You know your design is labeled the "tower of power" and the 3D file can be used by some CGI artist as the ass of a Space ship in the next Sci-fi thriller. I think I am in love with this thing.

Yeah C$ I am not able to upload a picture in the comments section, it does not accept html.

pix?

anyone here know how to post pictures on the "comments" section?
I can do it here in the main directory, but not off of it.
